1 Description It occurs as coarse or fine powder, yellowish white in color, almost odorless and having a mucilaginous taste.
2 Identification
Test (A)
(A) The amount of unsaturated product is not less than 0.5 × 10-5 M.
3 Solubility It is soluble in 20 parts of water, forming a viscous, opalescent, colloidal solution that flows readily and is acid to litmus; practically insoluble in alcohol or in diluted alcohol and in other organic solvents.
4 Galacturonic Acid Not less than 74.0%.
5 Methoxy Group The percentage of methoxy groups is within the range stated on the label.
6 Arsenic Not more than 3 ppm.
7 Lead The concentration in the sample solution is not more than that in the reference solution, corresponding to not more than 5 ppm of lead.
8 Sulfur Dioxide Not more than 50 ppm.
9 Sugars and Organic acids The weight of the residue does not exceed 20 mg, corresponding to not more than 16% of sugars and organic acids.
10 Methanol (methyl alcohol), ethanol (alcohol) and Isopropanol (2-propanol) Not more than 1% for total methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol.

PACKAGING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in tight containers.
