Applications: MOLGUM™ CK is widely used as a suspending, stabilizing, thickening, gelling and film-forming agent in pharmaceutical formulations, including oral suspensions, syrups, gels, topical creams, ointments, lotions, oral dosage forms and other liquid and semisolid preparations. It helps maintain the uniform distribution of insoluble active ingredients by increasing viscosity and reducing particle sedimentation, thereby supporting consistent dosing and formulation stability.

1 Description It occurs as yellowish or tan to white, coarse to fine powder. Is practically odorless and has a mucilaginous taste.

(A) The sample solution becomes more viscous upon cooling and may form a gel.
(B) A short-textured (“brittle”) gel indicates a carrageenan of a predominantly kappa.
(C) A blue, stringy precipitate is formed.
(D) Carrageenan has strong, broad absorption bands, typical of all polysaccharides, in the 1000 to 1100 cm−1 region. Absorption maxima are 1065 cm−1 and 1020 cm−1 for gelling and nongelling types, respectively.
3 Solubility It is soluble in water at a temperature of about 80°, forming a viscous, clear or slightly opalescent solution that flows readily. disperses in water more readily if first moistened with alcohol, with glycerin or with a saturated solution of sucrose in water.
4 Arsenic Not more than 3 ppm.
5 Lead Not more than 10 ppm.
6 Loss on drying Not more than 12.5%.
7 Solubility in water Not more than 30ml.
8 Acid-insoluble Matter Not more than 2.0%.
9 Viscosity Not less than 5 centipoises.
10 Total Ash Not more than 35.0%.

PACKAGING

MOLGUM™ CK is packed in HDPE bag or HDPE drum with double PE liners inside and is provided with a barcoded label and a tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in tight containers.
