1 Description It occurs as odorless or has a slight odor and produces a mucilaginous sensation on the tongue.

(B) Iodine colors some of the fragments of Agar bluish black, with some areas reddish to violet.
(C) Agar forms a clear liquid that congeals at 30°–39° to form a firm resilient gel, which does not liquefy below 80°.
3 Solubility It is soluble in boiling water; insoluble in cold water.
4 Arsenic Not more than 3 ppm.
5 Lead Not more than 10 ppm.
6 Acid Insoluble ash Not more than 0.5%.

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in well-closed containers.
